About Owen

Scholarship and statecraft, in one voice

Most historians have the scholarship. Most diplomats have the war stories. Owen has both.

He spent more than six years at NATO during a period of profound geopolitical upheaval, held demanding roles across the European Union, the UK Parliament and government, and collaborated with leading organisations including Transparency International and the UK Diplomatic Academy. He also holds a doctorate in History from the University of Birmingham.

The result is a speaker who bridges theory and practice with unusual credibility, someone who can make complex global issues understandable, connect the lessons of the past to the realities of the present, and hold a room with insight, clarity and wit.

The defining characteristic of international affairs is not power. It is uncertainty.

Romania, the Little Entente and the Struggle for Europe

Owen Grey · Bloomsbury, 2026

Romania, the Little Entente and the Struggle for Europe recalls the dramatic story of a regional alliance forged to defend the postwar order and prevent another continental catastrophe. At its heart stood Romania: ambitious yet vulnerable, committed to regional security while navigating the competing pressures of great power politics.
